DVDFab Media Player is an elegant media player that offers support for many file types (including ISO images, DVDs, Blu-ray discs and Real Media) and contains a few useful options.
The interface is clean, modern and intuitive. It allows you to open files or folders from the local disc, optical disc or mounted image. You can create playlists, capture frames, and jump to DVD chapters.
Furthermore, it is possible to select the audio stream and subtitle track, change the aspect ratio, make color adjustments (brightness, saturation, contrast), tweak the zoom amount, vertical shift and pixel ratio, as well as view file information.
DVDFab Media Player offers multilingual support, allows multiple instances, and it is able to automatically start playing movies when inserting discs and to remember the last playback position on close.
Advanced users may select hardware acceleration video codecs and set the audio output mode and device, speaker, offset, and volume amplification level. It is also possible to load subtitles and tweak settings (e.g. position, size, color, synchronization), choose the Blu-ray region code and play mode (simple or menu), make file associations, and pick the snapshot saving directory and format (PNG, BMP, JPG, GIF). Settings may be restored to their factory values.
The media player uses low CPU and RAM, so it doesn't hog system resources. However, its reaction speed is not very good. For example, it takes a long while to open the context menu. Furthermore, we were unsuccessful in our attempt to seek the position in an AVI file during our tests (although other media players had no problem with it).
In conclusion, the application comes packed with some important options for playing multimedia files, but they are not very advanced. The tool's major downside lies in its reaction speed. Nevertheless, the attractive interface and ease of accessibility make up for DVDFab Media Player’s features.
